What is Going On?

Finally Updating

02/28/08

I dropped the calendar. Too many things are spread too far apart.

My OncaDX test came back with a low score of 10. This means that my tumor is a well-behaved tumor. Its’ cells were not fast growing. This means I do not need to have chemotherapy. Yippee!

I just took my genetic test today to see if I have the same gene my brother does. They are going to be looking for the HNPCC gene. It will take about a month to come back. If I have it, the doctor wants me to have a hysterectomy because HNPCC has a high risk of developing endometrial cancer in woman. I also will have to have a colonoscopy yearly – yuck!

If I don’t have the gene, he will just remove my ovaries.
This is because my tumor was estrogen positive and ovaries love to make estrogen. I had a spot on my ovary on the PET scan; I’ve had a past tumor on an ovary (benign tumor) and now the breast cancer. The doctors just feel, no matter how my genetics test comes back, the ovaries need to go.

Any who…after the gynecologist decides what surgery I need and performs it, I will then start radiation on my breast that had the cancer tumor. When that is finish, I will then start years of hormone therapy that comes in pill form, on a daily basis. The removal of ovaries + long-term hormone therapy will (help) prevent me from developing breast cancer in both breasts.

In Review,

The OncaDX test only tested my tumor.
The genetics test only tests my DNA for HNPCC.

My PET scan was clean, clear. Found something by my ovary so I will have an ultrasound. They don't seem to be concerned. It was not tumor-like. I will also have a MUGA scan that checks my heart to ensure it is okay for chemo.
Monday I will talk to the oncologist about the results and radiation and chemo therapy.
I don't think I need chemo but he would like me to have it.
